  76.   1.0  Introduction
  77.  
  78.   1.1  General
  79.  
  80.   Lords of  Irongate is  a full  featured semi-random  adventure game  with
  81.   hundreds   of  monsters,   items,  and   dungeon  levels   and  has  been
  82.   specifically designed to be  run as a BBS  door game. The dungeon  itself
  83.   is  randomly designed and created as the player enters each new level. As
  84.   the  player digs  deeper into  the depths  of the  dungeon the  treasures
  85.   become more plentiful and the monsters become  more powerful. Despite its
  86.   random design there is a  fixed goal or objective to the  game, that goal
  87.   being to find and  retrieve the magical orb hidden deep in  the depths of
  88.   the dungeon of milina.

  90.   For anyone who's ever played  an adventure game before this game  is self
  91.   explanatory,  for those who  are new  to adventure games  - The  Lords of
  92.   Irongate contains  a friendly on-line user interface. This user interface
  93.   contains a  reference list of available  keypresses at every  prompt, and
  94.   has on-line  command documentation as well  as hints with  special tricks
  95.   on how to complete the adventure.

  97.   This  manual assumes you are familiar with  your PC system and the MS-DOS
  98.   operating  system, if  not, please  refer to  your  system manuals.  Some
  99.   keyboards have a  'RETURN' key in  the place of  a 'ENTER' key (they  are
  100.   identical) and  in all  cases this  manual will  refer to this  key as  a
  101.   ENTER key.

  104.   1.2  System Requirements
  105.  
  106.   The Lords of Irongate  (PC VERSION) will work  on any 286, 386 or  486 PC
  107.   system  with a minimum of  2 megabytes  of memory running  MS-DOS v4.0 to
  108.   v6.2 on a hard  drive with at least 1 megabyte of  available space (later
  109.   MS-DOS  versions have not been  tested but may  still work). Although, we
  110.   recommend  a  minimum  of  2  megs,  it  may  run  under  smaller  memory
  111.   configurations  since the  programs have  been designed  to  utilize less
  112.   than 256k at any one time  in order that it may run  while a BBS is  also
  113.   loaded.

  115.   Lords  of Irongate v2.xx  was specifically designed  to operate  as a BBS
  116.   door on IBM  PCs & PC Clones and will  run on any BBS which  supports one
  117.   of the following BBS door data file formats:

  139.   prior consent in writing by Enchanted Software.

  141.   The non-registered  demo program (Lords of  Irongate Demo or LOIDxxx.zip)
  142.   is also copyrighted by Enchanted Software. BUT  may be freely distributed
  143.   to  any BBS,  network,  or 'shareware'  package  as  long as  it  remains
  144.   unaltered and contains  all copyright information intact, AND as  long as
  145.   NO  more than $5 is charged for  the package which it is being bundled in
  146.   (if applicable).

  148.   1.4  Limitations with the Non-Registered DEMO Version
  149.  
  150.   The  demo has  almost  all of  the  same features  as  the final  release
  151.   version  (well  up  to  the  20th dungeon  level)  that  version  may  be
  152.   distributed  as a DEMO! If you are  playing the demo you must send in the
  153.   registration  fee to receive the registered version. You can use the demo
  154.   on your  BBS without registering, but  -be aware- that  your players WILL
  155.   be unable to complete the quest.

  157.   For those  who are  curious about the  exact difference between  the demo
  158.   and the registered  version - the  difference can best be  illustrated by
  159.   the author who wrote:

  161.     "I substitued Wizdak the wizard who's got the Orb (in the real
  162.      adventure) for two unnamed creatures and I put ALOT of those
  163.      two unnamed creatures ALL OVER the 20 level and down. Finally,
  164.      I warn you - those two creatures on the 20th level of the demo
  165.      are especially hideous! and vial! and disgusting! and all the
  166.      other things evil that I care not to describe... I'm not
  167.      kiddin' it is your worst nightmare come to life! So register
  168.      NOW and avoid that ugly scene... I warned you..."

  170.   Anyways,  to register  and  avoid those  hideous  creatures on  the  20th
  171.   level, please read the next paragraph 1.5 on how to register.

  175.   Send Enchanted Software cash, check or money order for  $20.00 and a note
  176.   indicating your  address and what  type of computer and  BBS you  will be
  177.   running the program on.

  179.     IMPORTANT!  Enchanted Software publishes both an Amiga and a
  180.                 IBM/PC Clone version of Irongate. YOU MUST indicate
  181.                 your computer type to ensure you receive the correct
  182.                 version!

  185.   forget  to fill in the blanks) but  if you don't have a printer handy you
  186.   don't have to.
